Advantages
- Very good weathering properties
- Good adhesion and flexibility on metal substrates
- Excellent adhesion to zinc (DEGALAN® PM 559/ DEGALAN® LP 65/12)
Coating Options:
Acrylic Polymers for Metal Coatings
Thick-Layer Coating The polymers can be employed as the sole binder or in combination with other polymers. DEGALAN® LP 64/12 (bead polymer) and DEGALAN® PM 381 (bulk polymer) require the addition of plasticizers and additional resins to adjust the film hardness (LP 64/12 and PM 381 have the same chemical composition).
Coating of Non-Ferrous Metals DEGALAN® LP 65/12 and the internally plasticized solution polymers DEGALAN® PM 560 and PM 559 (excellent adhesion) are suitable for coating copper, bronze and brass. Additional external plasticization is required for the chemically identical products DEGALAN® PM 709 (solution polymer), DEGALAN® PM 381 and also DEGALAN® LP 64/12.
DIY Coatings DEGALAN® LP 64/12, DEGALAN® PM 381, DEGALAN® PM 560 and PM 709 are recommended as all-round binders for this application. These coatings adhere well to metal and a variety of other substrates.
Zinc Substrates The internally plasticized products DEGALAN® PM 559 or DEGALAN® LP 65/12 (requiring external plasticization) are employed for this difficult substrate. Such coatings still display excellent adhesion and elasticity even after seven years of outdoor exposure (results apply to DEGALAN® PM 559).
Automotive Refinishing Paints A combination of DEGALAN® M 527 (bulk polymer) and DEGALAN® MB 319 (bead polymer) is recommended for thermoplastic automotive refinishing paints. The flexibility of the films can be adjusted by varying the amount of soft acrylic resin (DEGALAN® MB 319) added. These polymers can also be employed for aerosol application.
